Chinese songs

Christmas songs in Chinese:

There are several versions of videos of Jingle Bells on the internet, but I think this one is probably the best for beginners as it’s confined mainly to the chorus and has the pinyin alongside the characters. If you are looking for a fuller version there’s this one, but this would be too difficult for beginners.

Still on the Christmas theme there is this video for We wish you a merry Christmas.  The characters and pinyin are on the video as is the music but the words are not actually sung – shouldn’t be too difficult to work it out though!

And finally, also uploaded by Mandarinforkidz there’s a version of Santa Claus is coming to town!

Songs for Chinese New Year:

  • This song has a simple animation to accompany the words (in characters and English)
  • M-Girls often release albums at Chinese New Year;  this medley includes a number of popular tunes
  • This is yet another version of 恭喜恭喜
  • Here is a version of 咚隆咚枪 – the opening and the refrain are very easy for learners to pick up

Here are some songs on Chinesepod:

This Two little Tigers song is sung to the tune of Frère Jacques and introduces numbers, facial characteristics and the concept of measure words.  If you scroll down the comments’ section you’ll find further variants of Frère Jacques, including one about eating delicious red apples!

The Colors song (Chinesepod tends towards American spelling!) has a surprisingly catchy tune.  Here’s an image of a slide I made to accompany it when I used it in school:
